Wound Care Nursing Certification in Wisconsin

Wound care nursing certification can be obtained through two organizations, WOCNCB (Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board) and NAWCO (National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy) that upon the examination, the nurses can complete their wound care nursing certification and becoming certified. In Wisconsin or any place in the world, wound care may become simple thing to meet but the most often issue to take care. While those who are able to pass the wound care nursing certification from WOCNCB will be granted CWCN certification or Certified Wound Care Nursing certification and for those who pass the examination from NAWCO, will be granted WCC certification or Wound Care Certified Certification.

However, wound care nursing certification from NAWCO and WOCNCB may have equal value and quality since both of them are accredited by the ABSNC (Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification) which is formerly the ABNS Accreditation Council. In addition, either WOCNCB or NAWCO in Wisconsin offer 5 years valid certificate for those who successfully pass the examination. Likely to be different with any other wound care nursing certification exam outside Wisconsin, the examination content is a multiple choice questions with the outline given in the examination handbook.

The outline of the examination of wound care nursing certification is somehow like the following:

  • General assessment about pain, wound description, wound healing, nutritional status.
  • General principle of management about wound monitoring, skin protection, odor and bacterial control, debridement, and systemic factors.
  • Pressure Ulcers
  • Lower extremity Ulcers
  • Interdisciplinary wound treatment and prevention
  • Other types of Wounds
  • Legal, ethics, and policy

Wound Care Nursing Certification will give benefit for the certified nurse in gaining more comprehensive knowledge in taking care of patients with wound, acute skin injuries, and some health care upon their wound. In the wound care nursing, they are encouraged to identify asses, manage, provide the medication and care, educate the patients or the family what injuries they are facing and how to take care of it without worsen it. Even more, they will also take care of skin or tissue issues relates to arterial, diabetic complication, and other disadvantages skin circumstances from surgical and trauma. Furthermore, those certified wound care nurses will need some communication and interpersonal skills that will make them effectively work with some experts in wound care such as physician, dietitian, physical therapist, and etc. Never worry for such making noble wish come true, wound care nursing certification is also can be taken in other places outside Wisconsin by some testing center provided in some other places throughout the United States.
